Health Camp and Awareness Camp on HIV, TB, and Hepatitis

Objective:

The primary objective of the Health Camp and Awareness Camp was to address the health needs and spread awareness among vulnerable populations, specifically targeting 112 drug users and residents of slum areas in Kamrup Metro, Assam. The focus was on educating participants about HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis (TB), and Hepatitis, as well as providing essential health services.


Activities Conducted:


  1. Health Screening and Check-ups:

    1. A team of qualified healthcare professionals conducted health screenings including blood pressure checks, BMI measurements, and general health assessments for all participants.

    2. Specialized tests for HIV, TB, and Hepatitis were conducted to identify cases early and provide immediate counselling and referral services.

  2. Awareness Sessions:

    1. Educational sessions were conducted by experts from Assam State AIDS Control Society and other stakeholders. Topics covered included:

      1. Transmission routes of HIV, TB, and Hepatitis

      2. Importance of regular testing and early diagnosis

      3. Available treatment options and support services

      4. Methods of prevention and safe practices

  3. Counseling and Support:

    1. Individual and group counselling sessions were held to address concerns and provide emotional support to participants.

    2. Referrals were made to local healthcare facilities and support groups for ongoing care and treatment.

  4. Distribution of Informational Materials:

    1. Pamphlets, brochures, and posters in local languages were distributed to ensure continued education and awareness beyond the camp.

    2. Contact information for helplines and support services was provided for participants to access further assistance.

  5. Community Engagement:

    1. Engaging the local community was a crucial aspect of the camp. Community leaders and volunteers were involved in organizing and promoting the event.

    2. Interactive activities such as quizzes and group discussions encouraged active participation and reinforced key messages.


Outcome and Impact:

  • Healthcare Access: 112 individuals received comprehensive health check-ups and screenings, leading to early detection and treatment initiation for some cases.

  • Awareness and Education: Participants gained valuable knowledge about HIV, TB, and Hepatitis, enabling them to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.

  • Empowerment: The camp empowered participants to take proactive steps towards improving their health, including seeking regular medical care and adopting safer behaviours.

  • Collaboration: The collaboration between BTI, Assam State AIDS Control Society, and other stakeholders showcased effective partnership in addressing public health challenges.


Conclusion:

The Health Camp and Awareness Camp on HIV, TB, and Hepatitis conducted by Better Together India Trust in collaboration with Assam State AIDS Control Society and stakeholders was a significant success. It not only provided essential health services and education but also fostered a sense of community involvement and empowerment. Moving forward, continuous efforts will be made to ensure sustained support and follow-up care for all participants, further strengthening the fight against these infectious diseases in Kamrup Metro, Assam.
