
Awareness Camp on HIV, TB, and Hepatitis
Objective:
The objective of the awareness camp was to educate and empower drug users registered at the Rehabilitation Centre in Kamrup Metro, Assam, about HIV, Tuberculosis (TB), and Hepatitis, aiming to reduce transmission rates, promote health-seeking behaviour, and improve overall well-being among this vulnerable population.
Activities Undertaken:
Preparation and Planning:
BTI collaborated closely with the Assam State AIDS Control Society and other stakeholders to plan and organize the awareness camp.
Educational materials such as pamphlets, posters, and multimedia presentations were prepared to effectively communicate key information about HIV, TB, and Hepatitis.
Educational Sessions:
The camp commenced with educational sessions led by healthcare professionals and counsellors specializing in infectious diseases.
Topics covered included modes of transmission, prevention strategies, symptoms, treatment options, and importance of regular screening.
Interactive discussions and Q&A sessions were encouraged to address specific concerns and misconceptions among the participants.
Screening and Testing:
HIV, TB, and Hepatitis screening services were provided onsite, ensuring immediate access to testing for interested individuals.
Counseling sessions were conducted pre and post-screening to provide emotional support, explain test results, and encourage follow-up care as needed.
Community Engagement:
Beyond informational sessions, the camp focused on building a supportive community environment among drug users.
Peer support groups were facilitated to promote mutual encouragement, share personal experiences, and reinforce positive health behaviours.
Distribution of Resources:
Participants received educational materials and resource kits containing essentials such as condoms, hygiene supplies, and referrals to local healthcare facilities for ongoing support.
Impact and Outcomes:
Knowledge Empowerment: Participants gained comprehensive knowledge about HIV, TB, and Hepatitis, empowering them to make informed decisions regarding their health.

The Awareness Camp on HIV, TB, and Hepatitis conducted by Better Together India Trust (BTI) on 26 January 2024 in collaboration with Assam State AIDS Control Society and other stakeholders in Kamrup Metro, Assam, exemplifies our commitment to promoting health equity and community empowerment.
